Crockpot / Slow Cooker
Every one always asks what my favorite crockpot is? I have used at least 5 different brands of slow cookers and crockpots and have finally landed on my favorite. I now own 4 of the same one and they never fail me.
My favorite all around crockpot is the Hamilton Beach Set ‘n’ forget Slow Cooker (6 quart).
I also have favorites of every size and even a Wifi model.
Lately, I have been using one tool to replace 5 different appliances in my house. Click here to see it.
Think you can only use your crockpot for the simple things like roasts and chickens, not quite. There are plenty of other slow cooker tricks.
Slow Cooker Tricks
- You can use your crockpot as a double boiler. You simply fill the insert about halfway with water, add all the ingredients to a bowl that will then be set in the water. This slows down cooking for overnight recipes. (source)
- You can use your crockpot as a steamer. Add a small amount of water or tea to the insert of your crockpot, layer with fresh aromatics to create a resting surface above the liquid (rosemary, thyme, etc.). Place your food on top and the food will be steamed with the flavors of the herbs. (source)
- You can poach a whole chicken in it. Line the bottom of your crockpot with some freshly cut onions, carrots, celery with some thyme or rosemary. Lay your whole chicken on top and then fill with water to cover the whole chicken. Cook on high for 2 to 3 hours or low for 4 hours. (source)
- You can turn it into a Sous Vide. Yes that is right, fancy cooking for under $100. Typically sous vide machines cost upwards of $600 and with this method you can make your own. Of course if you want to buy one for ease of you, this is the one I use at home.
- Use Aluminum Foil. That is right, either line the insert with foil which will help food cook more evenly and be easier to clean or wrap individual meats in foil themselves.
Armed with all this information as well as our favorite slow cooker tricks, here are the best crockpot recipes we have to offer that are simple and delicious. Not to mention, a few of them have won multiple awards.
