Why do we allow a man-made three digit analog or digital inanimate object to define our value and self-worth as human beings?
Why do we reduce our souls, our being, and our self-worth down to just three numbers that show up on a piece of technology?
Why do we allow a small needle or minuscule numbers to dictate our value?
The Scale Doesn’t Matter but YOU DO!
The Scale Doesn’t Matter
You are not referenced by your weight in your relationships.
You do not say, “This is my beautiful 165 pound wife,” or “This is my handsome 195 pound husband.”
STOP IDENTIFYING YOURSELF WITH A SUPERFICIAL NUMBER displayed on a worthless object, which was designed to create doubt, shame and guilt rather than love, acceptance and joy.
A number on the scale cannot physically represent health, dedication, hard work, or determination. Nor can the number on the scale represent the amount of blood, sweat and tears you have poured out today, this week, this month, or this year.
If you want feedback from a scale, TOO BAD. If you want non-scale feedback, then stand in front of the camera, and I will tell you how much of a kick-butt, driven, dedicated rockstar you are. Your self-worth has nothing to do with some nonsense created to sum up your life and reduce your value down to three little numbers.
Numbers Do Not Define You:
- You are not the size of your jeans.
- You are not the number of calories you eat each day.
- You are not the percentage of body fat you carry at any given time.
- You are not the number on the bathroom scale.
- You are not the circumference of your waist, glutes, or thighs.
- You are not the weight on the barbell you pull off the ground, or the weight of the dumbbell you lift overhead.
You ARE perfect, whole and complete as a human being!
Society uses these numbers in an attempt to dictate our self-worth and to create an ideal picture of “perfection,” which we feel obligated to achieve. However, I am here to say: SHOVE IT!
Our self-worth, beauty, and strength is not defined by numbers. Life truly begins when we realize this truth. When we do, then we are truly free to be the most authentic version of ourselves.
Do you want a scale? Here you go:
How do you feel?
- Do you feel strong and healthy?
- Do you feel better than ever?
- Do you have more energy?
- Are you performing well in the gym or anywhere else in life?
Focus on your actions and you will get results.
- Are you eating well?
- Are you training consistently?
- Are your actions in line with your goals?
If you feel like you are lacking in one of these areas, CHANGE IT.
If you do not feel energetic, you need to drink more water, get more sleep, and measure again tomorrow.
If you are not eating well, you need to make a change, recommit, and measure again tomorrow. Are you making progress towards your goal? Why or why not?
If not, SHIFT IT NOW!
Stop putting off your life and waiting for other people to fix your life for you. It will never happen because that is subconscious avoidance, which keeps you stuck.
“Stand up, dig in, and fight for your life; it is too short to waste.”
The only person who should be proud or excited about the scale is Sir Isaac Newton because it just proves that his theory of gravity exists.

Dear George, Thank you, thank you, thank you! every time I watch this I cry! I am going through restrictive behaviors and trying to up my calories everyday and this speaks to my heart to “just do it”! You are motivating me when I feel very low and you bring a smile to my face in the midst of whatever I may be doing, shoveling snow, playing with my kids or doing the laundry. I share this with my girls because I don’t want them to feel shame that I have felt when I was a kid. God has certainly blessed us with you. All our best to you and yours,
ML
George Bryant

This post is perfect timing! I haven’t been taking care of myself and have used emotional binge eating as a crutch to avoid doing things I don’t want to do (work related). During this time, I repeat to myself that I am unworthy b/c I was not able to have the willpower to avoid caving in again. In the end I feel bloated, guilty and a failure. I also had bulimia for about 10 years, so I can relate to your story. Today I am going to try again and will CHANGE what is not working, so I can achieve my goals. Thank you for sharing this, George! You have no idea how much I needed to read/hear this today. :)
George Bryant
Thank you for being brave to share Kara and keep up the great work

You are worth it, and the more you share it the better it helps you. Paying it forward always feeds our souls. Keep up the great work

Great post.
I have always found this interesting:
“Hoo-ray! So and so just had her baby!”
“Sweet! How much does it weigh?”
George Bryant
Great thought actually, never considered that.

George, I LOVE this post! You are so right, being your best doesn’t mean being harsh on yourself. You can be motivated from a place of love (rather than inadequacy) AND seek something better for yourself. I wish more people were able to feel this way! The more we share this kind of mentality the more positive change we create. Keep up the amazing work!
George Bryant
YES I AGREE, let’s keep spreading the word and helping people
