A friend at work gave me a bunch of yellow grape tomatoes today and a bunch of them were split open so I rinsed, food processed, strained for the tomato sauce part of the recipe. I did add a tiny drizzle of black strap molasses and not having ANY mustard powder and wanting some hint of the mustard, I used a squirt of brown mustard. The last improvisation was to supplement my apple cider vinegar with some honey wine vinegar. I have to say, best.ketchup.ever!

OK planning to make this – this week. Wonder if anyone knows the sugar content of this verse’s TJ’s ketchup. My DD needs to be on a low/no sugar diet for a few weeks.

My 4 year old finished his sweet potato fries and then used a fork to finish the catsup. I call that a winner!! Love all your recipes

So just an FYI if you accidentally use 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar instead of 2 teaspoons like I did, add 2 teaspoons of raw honey & make it delish again! :)

So in the UK, is passata the UK equivalent of the ‘tomato sauce’ required to make this awesome looking ketchup?

I do not know because I am unaware of what passata is

Yes, passata is the same as plain tomato sauce in North America :)

I found a recipe recently that called for tomato passata, which I didn’t think we had here in the States, so I looked it up. As best I can tell, tomato sauce is a cooked product, whereas tomato passata is not cooked during processing. All of which is to say, I’m sure you could use it in place of tomato sauce!

A tomato sauce is more watery and has a sauce consistency. Tomato paste is concetrated tomatos that literally look like paste. Its is really thick

I’m quite impressed with all your recipes they can be easily altered for the candida diet, tonight I’m making the coconut shrimp with pineapple sauce and plan on using it for more then just dip.

this is on the stove as we speak….my tomato sauce/paste was super acidic so I juiced an apple and threw it in and also added some onion powder. Freaking amazing. Will be using it to make the raspberry bbq sauce later today!

OMG. Made this over the weekend to put on top of a paleo meatloaf. (Had to add non-paleo brown sugar for my husband.) But, the catsup by itself was AMAZING! Is it wrong that I just ate a few spoonfuls by itself?

never had to describe it before…..here goes!!

um, it's a thick sauce of pureed tomatoes (probably with other things). it's not as thick as tomato paste. like a heavy gravy?? (am I right or wrong Americans??)

    and it's not really catsup…

type "tomato sauce can" in google images and you'll see what it looks like.

hunt's and Heinz are 2 famous brands I can think of. Of course they make catsup, but they make other tomato products, too..like sauce, diced, stewed tomatoes, etc..
