I couldn’t wait to share these delicious Paleo chocolate donut holes with you after I shared them with the amazing Katie from Wellness Mama. I have a confession to make: when I was a teenager, I worked at Dunkin Donuts. If you are not from New England, you may not know what Dunkin Donuts is. To keep it simple, people in Massachusetts consider DD to be some sort of religious shrine that is required to function in daily life. With that definition stated, I partook in daily pilgrimages to eat those not so good for me donuts. Fast forward 13 years and they make me sick as a dog so I decided to make my own.
Just in case you don’t subscribe to my YouTube Channel, I just posted a brand new video on Why I am Paleo? Instead of you having to go to YouTube, you can watch it here and leave me a comment letting me know your thoughts. This is the first video of many to come as I will be sharing my thoughts on food, life, my personal growth and anything else I can talk about. Is there something in particular you would like me to address in a video?
Are you still with me? Did the video bore you enough to make you crave chocolate donut holes now? That was my intention so I hope it worked. Just kidding, but for real these things are out of this world and with the holidays coming up, it’s time to get these puppies mastered. I haven’t tested them, but I am positive that these will work as muffins or a cake if you wanted to tackle that. If you do, let me know how it turns out and how long it took :) Well, I have stared at these pictures enough today and now I want to go make them again. While you read this I will probably be stuffing my face with these so enjoy. Talk soon.

- Place a medium sauce pan over low heat and add your chocolate and coconut milk
- Stir continuously until you form a creamy coconut milk chocolate
- Remove from heat and set aside
- Place your 2 eggs in the bowl of a stand mixer or a mixing bowl and use a whisk on a hand mixer
- Whisk on high until your eggs become foamy and fluffier
- Fold in your coconut milk chocolate and mix well

To Bake in Cake Pop maker
- Once it is preheated, fill a ziploc bag with your batter, cut a small corner off and use it to pipe your batter into your cake pop maker
- Fill to just above the rim and then close the lid
- Cook for 5 minutes, open, turn the donut holes over, close the lid and cook for 2 more minutes
- Remove from the cake pop maker, place on a plate and place in the freezer for 45 minutes
To bake in the oven
- You can make these in a donut pan, muffin tin or anything else that makes you happy
- Fill a ziploc bag with your batter, cut off a corner and use the bag to pipe your batter in your donut pan, muffin pan etc
- Place in your preheated oven and bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean
- Remove from the oven, let cool, place on a plate and stick in the freezer for 45 minutes
Glaze
- Combine your coconut cream concentrate (coconut butter), coconut oil, and honey in a tall glass and mix extremely well
- Remove your donuts from the freezer and dip in the glaze one at a time, setting on parchment paper to set after dipped

Can I use a different flour if allergic to nuts in replace of almond flour
Denise
My first attempt at one of your recipes…and I’m not a cook, nor a baker so we’ll see what happens! What is ‘coconut creme concentrate, liquid’? And is ‘coconut oil, liquid’ just coconut oil heated up?
George Bryant
coconut creme concentrate = coconut manna/coconut butter and coconut oil liquid is coconut oil melted, yes
Rori
I have a cake pop pan that goes in the oven. Do these rise at all?
Not sure since your recipe calls for flipping the donut.
Going to make these for Passover.
George Bryant
They rise a bit, yep. Happy first night of Passover!
Genie
Ooh, I’ll have to try the glaze – I’m not much for chocolate donuts, but I have an almond-meal mini donuts that I like, but not a paleo glaze.
George Bryant
Let me know what you think!
Kathleen
You keep coming up with this great stuff!!! Just got a cake-pop maker and was online browsing for some paleo recipes I could adapt for it …..and saw this post! Thanks so much, will be making these tomorrow. Keep the awesome stuff coming!!!
Tara
I made these as a treat for the Super Bowl. They tasted great but I did something horribly wrong with the glaze. It looked like I applied a nice coating of shellac to my donuts. I will try again though I have loved every recipe of yours I have tried, thank you for sharing!
George Bryant
Oh no! Please let me know how they come out after you retry!
Kim
As a fellow north easterner I know all about DD. And those amazing bites of heaven they call chocolate munchkins. I made these last night and they are ridiculous. Props to you! I had to make a double batch today bc my kids not only ate all the ones from last night but begged for more today, so they can share them with friends. Thanks. You Rock.
George Bryant
You’re welcome- you rock !
Dave
George,
Great site, I’m glad I found it. A quick question. I’m deploying back to the desert and was wondering how you were successful with the military meals they serve us that are “healthy.” This will be my first deployment since going paleo a couple years ago.
Congrats on the awesome changes and renewed motivation with the start of the new year.
George Bryant
I did the best I could. I would get eggs every morning and then get one to go with eggs and tons of veggies. I would snack on it through the day and try and eat salads and the plainest meat I could find. It is tough but feasible if you supplements with Paleo Kits and macadamia nuts etc
Dave
Thanks so much. What is this paleo kit you reference?
guess is I’m gonna have a lot of testing and what not as the weather and physical output changes. Maybe have to get lots to go and just wash off any bad stuff with bottled water.

they have a military discount too.

A comment on your video: Thank you for your courage in admitting you had an eating disorder, I know it is not easy for anyone, especially males to admit that. I have suffered from bad body image, eating disorders, and self hatred most of my life. It is still a struggle and recently I have discovered Paleo. I am just starting it and came across your blog. The video you posted has given me encouragement that I can find an inner peace with food and my body and perhaps Paleo is the way. Anyway, sorry for the ramble, thank you for your story and I cannot wait to try your recipes!!!
George Bryant
You are not rambling. I really appreciate and am humbled by your feedback. Keep fighting, and I wish you the best of luck on your journey!

I share the same feelings as Barbara. I just want to give you a hug, George! Your being open about your past is courageous and inspiring to people of all ages and genders, but feel that you are a true role model for men who have suffered from similar issues. I was also bulimic for a very long time, and it ended up contributing to my own dis-ease. Sort of like you, George, it was dis-ease that prompted me to shift my behaviors and get in touch with my inner self to find wellness of mind and body. Congratulations on your personal healing and the success of your amazing website! You rock! :)

That’s really sweet of you. If my story can help someone lead a healthy and happy lifestyle without worrying about all the stuff that truly doesn’t matter, then I’ve been able to do all that I can hope for. Thank you for the kind words and keep enjoying the recipes. Hugs and Bacon!
Alivia
My apologies for the duplicate message. :)Hugs and bacon, back atcha! ;)

I made these for our New Year’s Day breakfast this morning. I halved the recipe, used regular dark chocolate chips, skipped the glaze (and the steps involving piping out of a plastic bag and freezing), spooned the batter into a greased 12-cup mini-muffin tin and baked for 10 minutes. Warm out of the oven, these were perfect with our first cup of coffee this year!
George Bryant
Awesome you put your own spin on it ;)
tiffanie
Any substitution for coconut butter for the glaze?
George Bryant
Chocolate :)
Jackie
I made these! You gave my cake-pop machine life! I seriously had in tucked in a corner collecting dust. I got it as a gift. Made bad bad bad (bad as in delicious) donut holes in it a few times, but changed my eating and tucked it away for over 2 years! I was going to give it away! NO WAY, NOT NOW!
I admit, I made ingredient substitutions, but still give your credit for the formula and new life to my cake-pop machine! My glaze was chocolate! Going to try to make them again tomorrow for a Christmas party. If I don’t make something and bring it, I will have NOTHING to eat! LOL
Thanks bunches! Oh made the Pumpkin Choc chip cookies too! (with substitutions too).
Love your stuff! Thanks!

YAY! Photos of my goodies! THANKS!!!!

You’re so welcome!
George Bryant
Glad I could help out ;)

I have some Nutiva Coconut Manna, is this the same stuff as the “thick stuff” in a can of coconut milk? Or is this the coconut cream concentrate, and I’ll have to use a can of coconut milk to get the other stuff? Planning on making these this weekend to take in as pre-Christmas treats :D
George Bryant
Here is a pretty good explanation of what coconut manna is: http://nutiva.com/articles/some-nutiva-coconut-manna-faqs-answered/

When I lived in Boston I would stop at Dunks every Monday on my way to volunteer at the aquarium. I loved getting a ridiculously giant iced latte and sometimes a breakfast sandwich. Good memories, poor food quality. Let’s open a Paleo Dunkin Donuts, George!
George Bryant
Hahahahahaha thanks for making me laugh Kate :) I’m glad we can recreate those memories but in a better and healthier way
George Bryant
I would say keep them in the refrigerator at least :)
Dina
these sound like great low carb and healthy treats!
George Bryant
Thank you. Let me know how you like them!

If Dunkin Donuts EVER served this up, I would faint.
George Bryant
Me too!

Thank you for sharing some of your story with us, George, and thanks for another awesome recipe! You rock!

First of all I want to say terrific blog! I had a quick question in which I’d like to ask if you do not mind.
I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your mind prior to writing.
I have had a difficult time clearing my mind in getting my ideas out there.
I truly do take pleasure in writing but it just seems
like the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually wasted simply just trying to figure out how to begin.
Any recommendations or tips? Appreciate it!
George Bryant
I do the same thing for 10-15 minutes. I think it’s tough to begin writing immediately. I just don’t hold back :)
uguisubari
You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find
this matter to be really something that I think I would never understand.
It seems too complex and extremely broad for me.
I am looking forward for your next post,
I will try to get the hang of it!
George Bryant
Looking forward to hearing your feedback!
Aimee & Clint
These look awesome! Yet another amazing recipe from you and I think this one would be perfect over the Christmas period as a bit of a treat. Thanks for this! Sharing on our page :)
George Bryant
Thank you so much! :)
Nelly
I just made these (yeah at midnight, don’t judge me) and I think they are DELICIOUS! I used a mini muffin pan, filled half way and greased with a bit of coconut oil. I used My Coconut Kitchen Naked coconut butter for the glaze (with the coconut oil and honey) and have to say, that was a great idea George! I’ll tweet you a pretty pic of the finished product in the morning (with natural light, you know) so that you see I’m not lying! They are so cute!! Thank you!!! :-)
Erin
Well, I do believe I will be making these puppies this weekend. AND I’m pretty sure my husband will ask me to marry him all over again. So, thanks for that!
gina
These look so amazing! Thank you so much for the recipe, I cant wait to try them!! I have a seriously massive weakness for all things sweet and dessert like.
George Bryant
Me too! But I rationalize eating them by making healthier versions :)
Whitney @ To Live & Diet in L.A.
Ahh these look insanely good. I love donut holes. I’m just afraid I would eat the entire recipe!
George Bryant
You can’t be afraid of the inevitable. Just joking!
Karibeth S.
I charred my bacon while I was reading this recipe.
I ate it anyway.
These taste wonderful.
Haven’t made them yet, could taste them thru the recipe.
I love you.
Send me something good tomorrow.
I’ll read it after I make bacon.
George Bryant
Hahahaha thank you!
Wanda
So much temptation! I may just have to make these over the holidays and serve them with a side of BACON! YUM
Adrienne @ Whole New Mom
This look sooo good! I am egg free at present and would have to use my own DIY choc chips to avoid the sugar, but I am going to try for sure! Pinning!
David Birney
I’m going to make these for my wife this weekend, have everything for the donut itself, but no Coconut Cream Concentrate, so I will have to figure out something else for the glaze.
Adrienne @ Whole New Mom
Try making it yourself from shreds in a high speed blender. I have info on my blog. Super easy! It’s coconut butter but I think it would be super close.
Antonette
Coconut milk(thick stuff) is a can of coconut milk bit you must only use the stuff( thick) that sticks to the can. If you set the can in the fridge for an hour the the thick milk will separate from the liquid milk. So it is easier to scoop out. Coconut cream is the same as coconut butter. You can find this at whole foods or on amazon for a better price.
Noelle @ Coconuts & Kettlebells
Holy moly. Can you come over for Christmas and make these for me? These look amazing! I’m putting the request in to my sister – the major baker in our household! :)
George Bryant
Please do. Let me know how you like them! thanks so much :)
Erin
Don’t worry! It’s me again! My son is allergic to all nuts but almond so this recipe works for us! Thank you!
Erin
Thanks George! For the donut recipe because we have nut allergies in my house and my son has never been able to eat DD chocolate donut holes. And for the YouTube video on why you went Paleo….the best paleo story I have heard yet. You are a good boy…I say that as a mother to a 7 yr old boy and a daughter who lost a brother and parents suddenly. Your father is proud of you! Stay healthy and keep up the good work! I appreciate you and everything you do.
Renee
I am so making these for my daughter! She misses donuts most since being gluten free. Thank you!
AnnMarie Fleet
George,
Could you please help me with the difference between coconut milk, the thick stuff and coconut cream concentrate because I want to make these right now. Thanks as always
Pamela McLennan
I have been researching paleo for a few weeks now and I just “officially” started eating paleo yesterday. I cannot wait to make these for my son for breakfast this weekend!
George Bryant
Awesome! I hope the both of you really like them :)
Lacey
I want this now! Lol, now I need work to be over so I can go home and make this!
George Bryant
Do let me know how they turn out if you make them :) good luck!
