Trying to mix things up with this one, Sweet pulled pork topped with a Raspberry BBQ Sauce.  I highly recommend you try these or any other of my crock pot recipes, they are so simple and perfect for the family on the go.  You can do what I do and prep the meat the night before, leave in the fridge, and start the crock pot on your way out the door to work.  Trust me, once you get hooked on your crock pot, you won’t stop, It is the best ever tool in the kitchen :)

Prep Time 10 mins
Cook Time 10 hrs
Total Time 10 hrs 10 mins
Servings 8

Ingredients

  • 5 pounds bone in pork shoulder
  • 1/8 cup brandy

Caveman Rub

  • 2 teaspoons sweet paprika
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  • Mix all of the above ingredients except the pork shoulder and brandy in a small mixing bowl, mix it all well making your spice rub
  • Massage the spice rub all over the meat in every crevice you can find
  • Wrap tightly in a double wrap of plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 3 hours, I did mine overnight. You can refrigerate this for up to 3 days
  • Unwrap the roast and place it in your crock pot, add 1/8 cup of Brandy and 1/8 cup of water.
  • Turn your crock pot on low and cook for 8-10 hours until the meat is fork-tender
  • Transfer your roast to a cutting board and discard all the liquid in your crock pot
  • Pull the meat apart with two forks or your fingers
  • Place all the shredded meat back in the crock pot and toss with a full batch of my Raspberry BBQ Sauce and heat on low for 60 minutes until hot.
  • Serve and enjoy

Yum! Quickly prepped this last night. I put it in the crockpot this morning on my way out the door for 9 hours on low, then it switched to a warm setting. I returned to the house smelling delicious. I made the raspberry sauce to go with this (also great!) but this pork was so good on its own, it really didn’t need the sauce. I would probably just serve the sauce on the side next time… sorta like holiday cranberry sauce. (Or better yet, save the sauce for paleo pancakes!) Great recipe – thanks!!

Since you are an expert in all things crockpot, and you have so many-I need a new one. Mine is too teeny. Do you have a recommendation?

I bought your cook book recently and am working my way through it. So far I am loving everything I make but the flavors of this dish are one of a kind. It was eaten too fast to take pictures. My only regret is that I only had a 3lb roast. Luckily I cooked it and shredded it so I got to pull off more than a fair share of the bark :)

Anyways, thank you. Not just for the recipe, but for everything including being so relatable.

I made this today and it was a huge hit! I didn’t have sweet paprika so I used the regular stuff and subbed amaretto for the brandy. The house smells like maple bacon! Love this.

Didn’t have brandy or a pork shoulder so, I used this rub on a pork loin. Put in crockpot on a bed of sliced apples and added 1/4 cup fresh apple cider. Cooked all day on low. Came home to a house that smelled AMAZING! Shredded it up with the cooked apples…. delicious!
Thank you for all you do!

This is far and away the best pulled pork I have ever eaten! I wasn’t crazy about the raspberry BBQ sauce, i found it a little too sweet, but the pork is so good on it’s own it doesn’t need sauce.

You don’t need it at all but you can use any liquid, red wine, beef broth, some sort of juice or just water

Made this yesterday…LOVED it! My five year old (who hasn't been the most cooperative since I've been converting to paleo) gave me a high five and said she loved it! (Even without the sauce which I didn't have time to make) Will definitely make it again!
