So now onto this delicious recipe. I mean right from the start, you could never go wrong with this list of ingredients. Macadamia nuts and chocolate chips, YES PLEASE. That is a guilty pleasure of mine. You can often find me hiding in a corner scarfing down handfuls of Macadamia Nuts and enjoy life chocolate chips. Oh my mouth is watering just thinking about it, glad I have no chocolate chips in the house and I am going to change the subject now so I don’t drive to the store. So yes, you should just go ahead and make this recipe before you eat all your ingredients which is apparently something I might have a problem with.
I have to be honest, I am fresh out of anything to talk about, but I really just don’t like blank space. I think I can get used to it for the rest of this recipe though. My hopes are that you at least like the photos more than my horrible grammatical errors and spelling mistakes. I hope you love this recipe and make sure you let me know once you make it.

Love this recipe! Ive tried similar recipes before and they were crumbly, dry and fell apart but these were perfect. From previous comments I was worried they would have to many wet ingredients, but it wasnt the case for me. The only thing I would change for next time (because there will be a next time) is reduce maple syrup, not because they I dont like they taste because they are amazing but because I think I can reduce it and them still be super yummy.
Kayleigh
What’s the macros on these?
Melody
These look deliciously amazing! Love paleo cookies even more than the “real” thing. Give my sea salt and dark chocolate chunk paleo cookies a shot :)
Luis
Can I use almond instead macadamia nut?
Or any other idea to sub.
George Bryant
I have not tried it, a few people have used other nuts with success
Janet
I think the best substitute would be cashews because they are a really sweet nut like mac nuts.
Nick Cole
Same problem here. Batter was runny and couldn’t really form into a shape. Already cooked 15 minutes at 325 and not done, so adding more time and hoping for the best. The batter tasted good though, b/c I had a few licks! :)
Nick Cole
Wound up having to cook them for MUCH longer, like 30+ minutes. They still taste absolutely amazing but are flat and chewy, not like the picture where they look thick. I think the recipe short on almond flour or has too much liquid perhaps?
Amie
I am not a good cook (yet) and trying to bake primal or paleo can be even trickier for a novice like me. These came out perfect, other than needing to cook longer than recommended. My new favorite paleo treat! Just made these for Valentine’s Day and I’m excited to give them to my Valentines, daughter and husband.
Courtney
Oh, my! These sound quite delicious by themselves, but would be even more decadent with your new chocolate frosting! Who needs a spoon when you can just dunk them in all that chocolatey goodness?
George Bryant
Hahaha good thinking.
Sara
My dough was also pretty runny but I went with it. They are in the oven right now. More to follow!
George Bryant
Please let me know how they turn out :)
Michie
My dough resembled more of a batter and there was no way I could form a shape with it. It was way too runny. I followed the recipe exactly. I was wondering if the proporation of wet and dry ingredients is off in this recipe. Maybe not enough almond flour or too many eggs? I have a ton of cookie making experience under my belt. I read the line that said to put them on the cookie sheet in the shape you want them to cook and I added more almond flour until the consistency of the dough met this description. I pretty sure I had to add nearly 1/2 to 3/4 cups of almond flour. I also put another 1/4 cup coconut and another 1/4 chocolate chips just to keep the yummy flavor in balance.
Once I made this adjustment and baked these babies, they were delicious. Always looking for some healthy once in a while indulgences. These will definitely be made again, but with more dry ingredients added to the same amount of wet ingredients in the recipe. I ended up with 2 dozen cookies,
George Bryant
That is so strange. I’m not sure what could have happened. I am sure the recipe is correct, and I haven’t heard of other issues with it, but I am glad you resolved them and they turned out :) Thank you for sharing!
Tom
So weird. I had the same problem. Came out very runny like a batter. I used honey and coconut oil, but I’m pretty sure I followed the recipe exactly. I think I need to try again.
Jayne
I made these today. Awesome! Thank you so much for such a delicious treat. It reminded me of and Almond Joy bar, only inside out, sort of. I also though that adding some orange zest would make a nice variation. Kudos, George!
George Bryant
That was my original plan… to make these taste similar to an Almond Joy, but even better if I could. The orange zest sounds like a great idea, can you let me know how those turn out? :)
Jayne
Oh, they are definitely better! I was thinking that when I commented, sorry I didn’t include that originally. I misread the recipe as I was making these and had a whole stick of butter going, so, oh, so sad, I had to double the recipe.(I don’t think I did that subconsciously on purpose, but what a great mistake to make! Ha!)
It may be a while before I try the orange zest, but I will keep you posted. Any idea how long these can keep at room temperature, or should I refrigerate them.
Glyn
Holy moly these are good! Nice and dense and coconutty, with a great chocolate hit! So George, this week I’ve had your pulled pork, banana bread and these – I think I have a problem. Is there a 12 step program available for Civilised Caveman-a-holics??
George Bryant
They don’t have a 12 step program yet, but I am flattered to think you may need one!
Jason
Well done George. Loved the texture of these cookies. Had a nice crunch to them. Have you tried making them without eggs to see if they turn out any denser like a traditional cookie?
George Bryant
I haven’t yet… may have to experiment with that sometime!
Kelly
AWESOME!!!!!!! :D i LOVE these! i make them into a slice :) if you’ve been looking at this recipe, do yourself a favour ( I’m Australian ;) ) and make them now!!! :D
George Bryant
I want to make them into a big pie now :)
Noa
Hi Kelly I live in Australia and am wondering if you know where to get the choc chips from?
George Bryant
You should be able to order Enjoy Life chocolate chips online. Maybe Amazon?
Cori_C
Has anyone run this through a nutrition calculator? I just used SparkPeople’s and it said 234 calories when recipe is divided by 16. That seems high to me. Some of the ingredients were ones other members had entered into the system and you can’t always trust the accuracy of them. I’m not a calorie nazi but was just curious where these stood.
Amie
I used myfitnesspal to track & got 324 calories when divided by 12, so your’ sis probably about right too.
Sarah
I love soft Nut Chocolate Chipcookies! These look so amazing! I’m defnitely going to have to try these. I had featured U in the post of Top 7 Adorable Cookie for Mother’s Day on AllFreshRecipes. If u have any other EATS want to be featured, please let me know!
Christy
You left out which step to add the melted butter and chocolate chips. Lol. No big deal. I added more almond flour bc the dough was runny. I was at my grandmas or else I would have added a tablespoon or two if coconut flour instead. I also used prcan four instead of macadamia nut flour. I added 2 tablespoons of baking soda. They are in the oven now!
George Bryant
All fixed now Christy, hope you liked them
Christy Faucheux
Awesome. I send everyone this recipe. I’ve made about 12 dozen or more a gifts. Who doesn’t love a cookie?!? I don’t even tell people they are paleo ;) I’ve also added peanut butter to a batch because my hubby is addicted to peanut butter. And I’ve used pecan and hazelnut flour instead of macadamia nut flour. All have been delicious. Nothing beats my local pecan flour. Thanks for all the recipes. Keep em’ coming!
George Bryant
That is so awesome you can get local pecan flour
Sarah in CA
Oh you evil genius! Just what every sweet deprived mother wants. Give your mom a special hug, not every mom births, such a creative son. Now i need to send my baking minions to work.
Gabby
Hi!! I know asking for substitution to these ingredients will not do justice to the recipe but I really really want to make these and I only have almonds and pecans. Can you help me make these without the shredded coconut and the macadamias??? Thanks for any help you can offer.
Loooove your recipes!!
George Bryant
Gabby without me doing it I really can’t tell you. You can sub the macadamia nuts 1 for 1 but I don’t know about the coconut
Megan M
These were deliciously Amazing!!! Mine were not puffy looking like the photos, but were still great!! Brought them into work and were a huge hit!! (Slowly converting everyone to Paleo!) Thanks for the yummy cookies!! I Love cookies!!
Lori Carroll
Needed a sweet (paleo) treat again, and I was craving these. Alas, I was outta macadamia nuts. I did, however, have pecans, walnuts and cashews. The pecans won… and they taste every bit as good as the macadamia nut version… nom, nom, nom!!!
George Bryant
Woohoo yummy
Melissa
George, these were so freaking amazing!! I wish I had more people to share them with, I ate way too many! Yum!
George Bryant
Woohoo that is great news
Jen
I made these tonight…noticed the direction didn’t mention the butter or chocolate chips. I just up them in when I would for normal chocolate chip cookies. Also, mine were very runny. It took double the time to cook. They looked nothing like the photo. That being said, they are still awesome!!!!!!!!!!!
Sherry
Can you make this without the coconut flakes ?
George Bryant
You sure can
Rachele
Craving a cookie and just got some honeyville flour, so the first place I look for a recipe is your site and BAM these cookies were right there. And boy are they delicious, nice little crunch on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside! Thanks for being awesome!
George Bryant
Woohoo so glad you loved them :)
Caitlin
Made them!
Substituted bob’s red mill all purpose gluten free flour, coconut oil, 1/2c honey, pecans, and instead of eggs, we soaked 2tbsp chia seed in a can of coconut milk and used half of that! We’ll save the rest of the chia mixture for, we’ll, whatever comes up! It’s so good by itself!
Here’s a link to the post on my personal FB
I’ll try to make sure it’s a public post :/

Caitlin
Making these now, with honey, pecans and coconut oil. Also, we read chia seeds can be a great substitute for eggs so we soaked them in a can of coconut milk. It was a little wet so we added a little more flour( bob’s red mill gluten free all purpose flour)
We’ll let you know how it turns out!
Chantal
Just made these and they’re orgasmic. I see why you would hide in a corner and eat these. I just wanted to know what’s the nutritional value is, cause I know the ladies at my work are going to hate me for bringing these tasty morsels in. But something this good has to be shared!
George Bryant
Thanks for the awesome comment. I don’t calculate nutrition but you can at myfitnesspal.com or fitday.com
Jolie
Just made these. YUM-O!!! I had to cook them for 18min. Also I used Ghee instead of butter, only cause I didn’t have enough butter. Thanks for sharing!!!
Brooke
What can I sub the macadamia nuts for? I raced to the store but couldn’t find any grrr!
George Bryant
Brooke someone has used almonds with success :)
Isabela Herrera
Almond flour??
Marguerite
Snowy Day=baking. Love having a new recipe to try! Thanks.
George Bryant
Your so welcome, enjoy
Lauren
George, these look insanely good. I love the use of macadamia nut meal, which I’ve not seen until now. I just had to tell you that your picture was a standout on Foodgawker too! :-)
George Bryant
Thank you Lauren :)
Terry
I baked them for longer than 15 minutes and they are delicious!!
George Bryant
Awesome Terry
Brianna
Super delicious!!!
I changed it up a bit & used coconut flour instead of almond & I added a bit of homemade vanilla :)
They were a huge hit with the kiddos :)
Thanks for sharing!
George Bryant
Awesome Brianna, I am so glad that worked for you
Barb
I made these last night and they were awesome!! My “dough” was a little runny, don’t know why, but I added 1 1/2 tablespoons of coconut flour and then used a smaller cookie scoop. I got two dozen awesome coconutty cookies and I assure you I will be making these again! Thanks, Barb
George Bryant
Hope you love them oer and over again
Cyndi
Will be stopping by the store tonight to get almond flour and macadamia nuts for this recipe so I can make these in the next day or two. They look delicious! My other favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe has bacon in it. I may have to sneak some bacon in these as well…
George Bryant
It is always ok to sneak bacon in cookies :)
Terry
My cookies are in the oven right now, and they are oozing much liquid after 15 minutes. What have I done wrong? I used exactly what’s written. I didn’t melt the butter, just softened it. Maybe it didn’t get we’ll spread out into batter?
George Bryant
That could be it. Just see how they turn out
Craig
These are truly amazing! Hard to eat just one. Love your recipes!
George Bryant
Ah so glad you loved them
Sigrid
These sounds delicious – I will try making them as a treat for the next family holiday. Macadamia, chocolate and coconut are some of my favorite things, can’t go wrong with this ;)
George Bryant
Enjoy Sigrid
Cassandra Wagner
Can I leave the eggs out I’m allergic to egg whites?
George Bryant
Hmmm I honestly don’t know. You can try
Nana
I just made these – without the eggs. I simply forgot to check my storages only to notice in the middle of baking that there was no eggs left… Oops.. I followed the rest of the recipe as it is, and the cookies turned out just fine. They’re still dellllisssshious, slightly crunchy, nicely chewy, and hold perfectly together. The only adjustment I would make, however, would be to slightly decrease the amount of honey and coconut oil (or whichever you prefer to use), specially if making these cookies without the eggs, to balance out the sweetness and make them a bit less heavy. Otherwise, I have to say this is by far the best paleo chocolate chip cookie recipe Ive came across with – thank you George! :) Will make them later with the egg to see if it’ll make a difference to taste and structure.
George Bryant
Good to know. Let me know what you think of the difference
Nana
I made another batch, half the recipe again, so used about 1,5 medium eggs. The cookies are now a lot softer, more moist and milder in taste than the ones without any eggs. Not bad at all, but I think I’d still prefer the crunchiness of the eggless ones (after adjusting the amount of sweetener and oil). They also taste great (and super crunchy) slightly frozen!
George Bryant
Awesome thank you
Julie
Craving something sweet tonight and remembered seeing this recipe this morning. I subbed coconut oil for butter and raw honey for maple syrup because that’s what I had on hand. As they cooled, I was tempted to jump right in, but I let them cool first. These are a hit. I made them a little on the bigger side (too small and I’d be tempted to go back for 2nds or 3rds rather than making them a treat) but I still got 12 cookies. These are absolutely delicious, George! Solid recipe…definitely one I’ll be making again!!! Love it!
George Bryant
Woohoo Julie, I am so glad you loved them and I like your substitutions :)
Teleah
I just made these, they taste great!
George Bryant
So awesome, thank you for leaving a comment Teleah

I just made these. i was too lazy to go to the shops for the chocolate so i used some dried cranberries. they where delicious!
George Bryant
Woohoo, that sounds delicious as well
Janell
Could you just leave out the coconut? or should it be replaced with more almond flour or macadamia nut?
George Bryant
The coconut helps hold these together and give it texture, so you will have to find something to sub
Lori Carroll
Now you’ve gone and done it, George… three of my favoritest things in the world… chocolate, coconut and macadamia nuts… guess I’m heading out to the store after breakfast to go fetch some more chocolate chips… You’ve hit the bullseye once again!!!
George Bryant
Woohoo Lori, let me know how you like them
Lori Carroll
Two thumbs up… WAY up!!! I was a little concerned, because the only raw honey I had left in the house was my orange blossom honey (not good for chocolate-based coconut milk ice creams… is does have a distinctive flavor!) Pleasantly surprised, it made no real difference. My mother (a major, major skeptic of most things paleo) liked them too… whoooo hoooo!! These have just the right amount of sweetness. You hit this one right out of the ballpark!!!
George Bryant
Woohoo thank you Lori
