CrockPot BBQ Chicken

JT  33 Comments

The best BBQ Chicken I have ever had and it was done in a crock pot, forget about the totally Paleo part, everyone devoured that.  In the hopes of continually making the lives of Paleo families easier this is my attempt at a BBQ CrockPot chicken.  I love the whole set it and forget it and be ready to eat when I get home from work, plus its always a bonus to only having to wash one cooking dish.  Hope you enjoy.

I copied your recipe to paper…went to make it this morning and wondered if I needed any liquid- esp since I’m using chicken breasts rather than a whole chicken. Went online to see if I had missed an ingredient (liquid) ….the recipe is different! Argh. The other didn’t have mustard or chili powder, lemon pepper, basil, rosemary. My paper copy does have the other ingredients plus white pepper and thyme. Hope mine turns out ok. It’s already in the crock. But what do you think about adding liquid??

With breasts only you need liquid, when doing a whole chicken you do not.

Could you do this with boneless chicken breasts? I have a bunch I need to use. Thanks!

You sure could, just make sure you don’t cook it longer than 6 hours on low

Just made this for the 3rd or 4th time, so yummy! I actually haven’t made it in the crockpot yet. I’ve done the rub on either whole chickens or cut up pieces baked in the oven. Awesome every time!

I'm making this recipe now–it's just about done in the Crock Pot. I used Bell & Evans boneless, skinless chicken breasts and added a bit of chicken broth so they didn't dry out too much. I haven't tried them yet, but they smell really good–even my cats keep trying to sneak a peek! :)

I've used this recipe a couple of times, and it is really good. After it's done, I simmer the bones, broth, and a few cups of water to make more bone broth. It's very tasty!

You can still cook them on low for 6 hours, and for a whole chicken you don't need a liquid becuase it bastes itself, with breasts I would maybe add a small amount of chicken stock to start the cooking process

So, along with lindsey. I would like to use split chicken breasts. I just won't cook them as long?

No it would not Lindsey, you can do that as well just keep an eye on the breasts, they obviously aren't going to cook as long

Do you think it would ruin anything to use a bunch of chicken breasts as opposed to a whole chicken?

Just wanted to say thanks for the recipe. I made it last night for my parents and boyfriend and it was a success. Very tasty. Also, I made it with vidella onion which was crucial.
