Is moving home a stressful process in London?

Life in the capital city is notoriously fast-paced. While it comes with a number of benefits, from the amazingly diverse cuisine to the bustling nightlife scene, that comes at the cost of a fast-paced life where it can be difficult to get enough downtime.

Moving home in London can often also fall into the stressful category, but is it really so bad? Today we decided to break the process down, looking at how difficult it can be. As we’ll see, some parts are definitely worth preparing for seriously – here’s what you should keep in mind.

Finding a new place

Probably the most stressful thing about moving home in London is actually finding a new place to live in. As you’ll likely have noticed, the property market is in an ongoing downward spiral, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to improve any time soon.

There are however plenty of different areas in London, and it’s important to be flexible about where you end up. Unless you’re really tied to one place, try looking in some up-and-coming areas – it will make the whole thing much less stressful, and a lot more exciting.

Packing everything up

While it’s not necessarily more stressful than moving anywhere else, packing up all your stuff will likely be a big thing that you’ll need to get through. If you’ve only been in your place for a little while, and it’s a relatively small apartment, it might not be so difficult.

If you’ve been living in your home for quite a while, however, and it’s a house that’s on the larger side, packing will likely take a surprising amount of time and effort. It could be worth using a service such as Kiwi Storage to tide you over, allowing you to get some of your possessions out of your hair until you’re ready to move everything in.

The move itself

The actual process of moving your stuff between properties in London can also be a very stressful experience. If you don’t have plenty of experience driving in the city – which not many of us do – the strange traffic and parking restrictions can become a bit of a nightmare to navigate, making it all feel a bit overwhelming. If possible, it’s absolutely worth using a removals service to take care of this part of the move for you!

Settling in

Once you’ve got all your stuff into your new house, the move isn’t quite complete – you still need to settle in. Moving to a new neighbourhood in a city like London can be a bit of a stressful experience, and it’s important that you actively explore and try to make connections. Check out your local parks, cafes, and any other places that might interest you – the city is packed full of hidden gems, and finding those secrets can definitely bring your neighbourhood to life.

Moving home in London definitely can be a stressful thing to have to go through, but there are also some easy ways to make it more bearable. Take these solutions seriously – they could really end up making a big difference to your next move.
