Apple Pumpkin Butter

Apple Pumpkin Butter

So I don’t know if you can tell, but IT’S FALL!  Well in Southern California where I am.  For some of you it is probably already winter or has been cold for a while.  Either way, I am in Temecula, so I am going to talk about Temecula.  Let me start by saying in the summer and up to about a week ago, it was hotter than the devil’s ass-crack.  I wish I was being facetious, but I have electric bills which can validate my claim from my attempts to keep it under 80 degrees in my house. Moot point, but I am just leading into my excitement that I am sitting here in my all-tim- favorite outfit typing away slightly chilly.  Any guesses on my favorite outfit?  I have talked about it before…….Yep, that’s right.  Hollister baggy sweat pants with an oversized Barbells for Boobs hoodie I won last year.  This hoodie is the shiznit. I swear I could wear it in the arctic, but I am not going to try.  You should support the boobies. I sure do. It’s the right thing to do, so go check out their site.

I apologize if you are reading this second paragraph.  Why you ask, because I subjected you to my random rants in the first one that have absolutely nothing to do with this recipe, or do they?  That’s right, I am going to try and tie them together.  Here goes my logic……I opened up with talking about the crappy heat and I exaggerated to make you feel all hot.  Did it work?  Probably not, but then I brought it back and talked about being all cozy in my sweats and how I could use my ridiculously comfortable hoodie in the arctic.  Did you get cold?  If not, you should have, so humor me and pretend you did.  Pretending is good for us, it keeps us young and our imagination sharp.  Off-topic but I think I just made a very important statement about life.  Let go of some of the superficial crap we let get to us everyday, and just get back to being jovial and free spirited for a minute.  Do you remember when we were kids? We had no cares in the world except climbing a tree, or when the next game of dodge-ball or red rover was.  It was such a happier time.

Apple Pumpkin Butter

I realize that I just threw a mind maze at your with the spaztastic topics I covered in one paragraph that made no sense in any language.  Sorry but that is just how my brain works when I am typing.  I will try and tie them together here.  Ready? So I mentioned the arctic to make you cold, you pretended you were cold (’cause we are awesome and pretending is fun) and now you are going to go make this recipe to warm you up or to fill your house with the rich and smooth aroma of baking apples.  So if it all works correctly, you went on a non-climate-controlled rollercoaster to make you want this recipe.  If it didn’t work, you are just laughing your ass off trying to figure out how my brain works, which is ok too.  Either way I made you smile. Now, go pay it forward.  While I am at it too, once you are done reading and you are making this recipe, while it’s cooking, DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT.  Shut your phone off, close your email, forget about Facebook, and go outside and do something you haven’t in 10 years.  Go climb a tree, skip up and down the  block or just go for a walk in the park.  You will be surprised at how amazing it feels, I promise.  Then come back and tell me what you did and how this recipe made you happy when you were done.  Please.

Making this right now! I’ve made apple butter before in my crockpot and LOVE it; but adding pumpkin is a game changer! BUT…I’m going one step further and adding pure maple syrup. Maple Pumpkin Apple Butter. Oh. MY!!

Is there any way I can make this without a crock pot? I will get one in the near future, but I just really wanted to try this recipe! Hoping to make it for a “tea party” themed birthday party as a scone topper.

Would I be able to simmer this on very low in a deep pot? Thanks!!

I can apple pumpkin butter – once it is done you need to put into jars that are heated and water bath for 10 minutes – (in case you don’t can that means you get the water to a rolling boil and once it is boiling start your 10 minute countdown)

OMGoodness!!! This is so good!! I made this last night. Luckily I have 2 crockpots. I had some pears from my mother-in-law’s house, she has pear trees growing wild at her house, that were in need of being used so I made an apple batch and a pear batch!! I did add some extra honey, I like it a tad bit sweeter than the recipe called for. I left the skins on the apples and the pears since I was blending this in my vitamix, why lose those nutrients if I don’t have to? I took some to work and it was a huge hit! I see christmas gifts made of this stuff!! Thank you for sharing! I love your recipes, and I’ve already preordered you next cookbook!

I made this with unsweetened almond milk and a couple of walnuts instead of the pecans, and half the vanilla (I can never resist making minor adaptations!) and it was absolutely beautiful. I am on an SCD diet, so I’ve been having it for breakfast mixed in with the SCD yoghurt, and sneaking spoonfuls of it all my itself for snacks! Thanks for this beautiful, simple recipes.

Will be trying with a bit more pumpkin next time, just to see how it turns out :)

I’ve been planning this for us all week, knowing we’d be up late election night, I started up the crockpot about 11pm. we woke up about 6:30am and my house smells as good as Christmas morning! We used chopped almonds instead of pecans and my kids and I are enjoying it with a side of bacon! It’s nice and soft (I feel like Mushy implies Ick) and we chose to not blend it up and enjoy it as a ‘Paleo’ oatmeal type of breakfast. Thanks for the pretty pics and easy recipe! Next time I may have to double it, you really want seconds of this one!

Wow! I stumbled onto your site just in the neck of time. After a recent diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes my body won’t tolerate any grains, legumes, starchy vegetables or sugar. Going from milling wheat and cooking just about everything from scratch to a grain free kitchen in less than a month. Thanks for making the transition more fun than I thought possible. Even my husband and kids are happy with the food. Now I can doing something with the last 60 pounds of apples other than quarts of applesauce. About Temecula, at least it isn’t Edwards AFB, its pretty hot here too!

Stop–you’re all making me envious!! It’s been getting colder and colder here since September (I’m in the Toronto area). It didn’t get above 41F here all weekend–and it snained! (Rain and snow all at once). I was at the cottage and was unwilling to leave the cottage once, for anything. Ok, well, I went for a canoe paddle when the sun came out, but the wind made my knuckles beet red. Had to wade barefoot into the lake to wash my dog who rolled in something and it was 33F. It was bone-achingly cold. Well, George, you can just keep on churning out the cold weather recipes right through until April because up here, we’ll just be hibernating and living for every one of those cinnamon-y things you can create. I’m making this one friday night–to put on saturday morning paleo pancakes.
