How To Tell When You Need Professional Mental Health Interventions

When it comes to mental health issues, it’s always a good idea to know when you’re reaching your limit. Many people don’t really understand when sadness, stress, or anxiety has reached a point where they need to reach out for help. However, there are definite thresholds that medical scientists identify. In the following posts, we’re going to look at some of the signs it’s time to really seek help.

You have persistent low mood or you feel hopeless

If you have a persistent low mood or you feel helpless, it’s a good sign that you need help. If these feelings go on for more than two weeks and you have the sensation that you’re empty, sad or irritable, then look for assistance. It’s not worth suffering through it usually. Also, if you have issues with self-hatred or guilt, it’s also a good idea to find people who can help you deal with that. Again, these feelings won’t always go away with the passage of time.

You’ve lost interest in the activity as you usually enjoy

Another sign it’s time to get help is if you’ve lost interest in the activities that you usually enjoy. If you don’t feel elevated up to social interactions or hobbies, then you may have a condition called anhedonia. You might also have major depression. These are conditions that mental health professionals can help you with.

You’re turning to substances

If you’re turning to substances, that’s another sign that it’s time to deal with your mental health. Often using illicit compounds will make the problem worse long-term and lead you to an even darker place than you are right now. This can even occur with prescription medications.

These days, there are all sorts of rehabilitation options available. For example, you can go to kosher rehab if you’re Jewish. Just find a clinic that is built around your requirements.

You’re noticing changes in your sleep, energy, and appetite

That’s also a sign that you need to go for professional help. Many people with depression can sleep too much, and those with anxiety may sleep too little. It’s also possible to overeat because of stress or undereat because of constant tension. If you have fatigue, then that’s a sign that your energy levels are low because of the stress or the stressfulness of your life.

You feel irritable and have mood swings

Another sign which people don’t talk about as much is feeling irritable and having mood swings. If you’re all over the place and you feel emotionally dysregulated, such as having frequent anger outbursts or overwhelming emotions, then that could be a sign that you need to go for help.

You’re thinking of self-harm

Finally, if you’re thinking about self-harm, then that’s an immediate sign that you need to look for professional help. If you have the sensation that you’re a burden to people around you, then it could be a sign that you are diminishing the value of your own life. If you’re having these thoughts, then seek emergency assistance as quickly as you can so you can get the treatment you need.
