What If……
What if we told you there was a food virtually unknown to most of us but is endorsed by the United Nations as the answer to world hunger and endorsed by NASA as the most nutrient-dense food in the world. Would you be interested in learning about it?
And what if we also told you this food was scientifically proven to boost your immune system, reduce aging/chronic disease, remove heavy metals, repair RNA/DNA, provide natural energy, boost your skin and hair AND give you more nutrients and vitamins than any other food on the planet. Would you believe us?
And what if we also told you this food was the first life on earth 3 billion years ago, had an amino acid/nutrient profile virtually identical to mother’s breast milk and was so popular in Asia it is a multi-billion-dollar agricultural crop there.
And what if we also told you this food was the most eco-friendly, sustainable crop in the world.
Would you be interested in learning what it was? Great. We’re about to tell you….
It’s algae.
What is Algae?
Don’t worry, if you haven’t heard about algae before. We’re going to help you learn why algae is so important for you and our earth. So let’s get started…
Why are we all Getting Sick?
The field of epigenetics has proven that our health and DNA are directly impacted by what we eat- in other words, our food literally speaks to our cells. However, over the last fifty years our food has become stripped of nutrients and loaded with sugar, our soil is lifeless, our oceans are polluted, our bodies are nutrient-deprived and our world is toxic. No wonder we are all so sick. Chronic disease, global warming and viruses plague us. We need to make a change.
Coronavirus is a Wake-Up Call
The coronavirus is a wake-up call for us to treat our bodies and our environment better. We need to start removing toxins from ourselves and the earth! We need to eat and grow more nutrient dense food and we need to care for ourselves and our environment better. In short. We need more self-care and earth- care. Do you agree?
If so, we invite you to take a look at how algae can do all of this and more.
What Exactly is Algae?
Algae is a plant. It has grown on earth for over 4 billion years and is a multi-billion-dollar agricultural crop in Asia. Algae is so safe and nutrient dense, it’s apparently the only thing that keeps newborns in Japan alive if they can’t digest mother’s breastmilk. This may be partly explained by the fact that the amino acid profile of spirulina algae is virtually identical to mother’s milk).
Who Endorses Algae?
Algae is well known in the scientific, nutrition and functional medicine world and in fact it is the most studied food in the world. There are almost 100,000 studies documenting the health benefits of algae and it is endorsed by prestigious organizations like Carnegie Institute and Rockefeller Institute. In 1974 the United Nations even held a global conference on spirulina algae and hailed it as the answer to world hunger. Even NASA endorses algae and is quoted as saying “The nutritional value of 1000 kg of fruits and vegetables equals one kg of spirulina” in other words, algae has a thousand times more nutrition than any other fruit or vegetable.
Wow.
So, we did the math. (see illustration below). At ENERGYbits, we sell bags of spirulina and chlorella algae tablets that have 1,000 tablets per bag (a bag weighs 250 g. or 9 oz). Using the NASA quote above, we calculated that one bag of our algae tablets (of any brand) has the nutritional equivalent of 551 pounds of fruits and vegetables. Amazing right? That’s a lot of food! In fact, 30 shopping carts worth of food! Not only is the nutritional density of a bag of our algae tablets so amazing, just think of all the grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning and cleaning up you don’t have to do when you take algae tablets. So, by giving your body the nutrients it needs, you save time and money too. And we could all need more of those. Right!
Two Main Types of Algae
Spirulina
Spirulina is a blue-green algae that has an unmatched nutrient profile and has been used for decades for energy, focus and hunger. It contains over forty vitamins and minerals, antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and at 64% protein, it has the highest concentration of protein in the world (three times the protein as steak) [1]. The protein in algae comprises eighteen of the twenty amino acids, including all nine aminos the body can’t produce, making it a complete protein [2]. Equally important, the aminos are unstructured so they are instantly and easily absorbed unlike animal protein which can take up to 3 days to be absorbed [3]. Spirulina also boasts more beta carotene than carrots, more iron than spinach, more antioxidants than blueberries, and more calcium than milk. No wonder its considered “efficient nutrition.”
Chlorella
Chlorella, a green algae, is world recognized for its wellness abilities, medicinal properties [4] and its ability to remove heavy metals like mercury, lead and radiation [5]. Chlorella also has the highest concentration of chlorophyll in the world (25 x more chlorophyll than even liquid chlorophyll), which is essential for cellular health, cleansing your body and helping to reduce or prevent chronic disease [6]. Chlorella is one of the rare plant sources to contain active forms of B2, B12 and K2, forms of which can easily be absorbed in the body [7].
Health Benefits of Spirulina:
- Provides a good source of protein and can help satisfy hunger [8]
- Provides natural energy and improves athletic performance [9]
- Boosts your beauty from within- helps your hair and nails grow [3]
- Helps to prevent wrinkles and creates vibrant, glowing skin [10] [11]
- Acts as an antioxidant and fights off free radicles to prevent against chronic illness [12]
- Improves your brain health to help prevent against neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s [12] [13]
- Helps reduce inflammation [13] [14]
Health Benefits of Chlorella:
- Helps your RNA/DNA and protect telomers which help with aging [15]
- Boost Immune System and natural killer cells [16] [17]
- Helps facilitate better sleep, naturally [18] [19] Can help control blood sugar levels [20]
- Detoxes your cells and body from toxins and heavy metals [21]
- Improves your bone health to help prevent against osteoporosis [22]
- Improves heart health to help prevent against heart disease[23]
- Helps stabilize blood pressure[24]
Algae is Ecofriendly and Sustainable
Algae is as good for you as it is for Mother Earth. Algae is the most eco-friendly, sustainable crop in the world. It can grow virtually anywhere (even the desert), because it is grown in outdoor water tanks and does not rely on soil as the growing medium.
Algae is also possibly the safest, NON-GMO food in the world. It does not need pesticides or chemicals to grow and in fact is often used to restore the topsoil so other crops can grow.
Algae also uses less water than any other crop. It requires just one tenth of the water of traditional crops and 80-times less water than cattle farming[25].
Algae protects the air and land by generating 200 times more protein per acre than cattle ranching [26] and it releases so much oxygen to the air that it provides over 80% of oxygen on earth. Algae also helps slow the deterioration of the ozone layer [27] by capturing carbon dioxide while it grows. In fact, algae is so efficient at producing oxygen that scientists are considering on using it for oxygen production on Mars [28].
Algae protects our oceans and is the original source of Omega-3 (yup even fish get their Omega3 from algae). You can help save our oceans by taking algae for your Omega-3 instead of fish oil [29]. Our oceans are being overfished which results in dead zones so if you want to help preserve the ocean’s eco-system and support sustainable farming, algae is your answer!
