5 TV Shows That Inspire Healthy Eating Habits

Rarely, if ever, will you find anyone who snacks on cucumber, apples, or any other fresh produce while watching television. It’s invariably a tub of ice cream, French fries, fried chicken, hamburgers, donuts, and pizza that serve as the go-to foods for most TV-watching experiences, whether it’s the world series or a TV series you plan to watch. So, it’s no surprise that watching TV shows is usually associated with unhealthy habits such as late nights spent binge-watching a series, overeating, and reduced physical activity. This doesn’t mean that TV shows can’t promote healthy eating habits. It simply means that we need to be more conscious of what we’re watching and how these shows influence our behavior. If you’re looking to change your TV diet so that it makes healthy eating easier, here are some shows that could inspire you.

5 TV Shows For Healthy Food Inspiration

1) Fit to Fat to Fit

Fit to Fat to Fit doesn’t fit the mold for a show that is inspirational for healthy eating – it follows fitness trainers who completely alter their lifestyles so that they can have a shared weight loss experience with clients who are desperate to shed the extra pounds. They do this by stopping all exercise and indulging in unhealthy fast foods, leading to obvious weight gain. Watching how fast food makes them feel and what it does to their bodies, highlights the risk posed by unhealthy food choices and will make you reconsider your own habits. In fact, much of the inspiration is to look for healthy alternatives and whole foods and to learn about nutritional supplements to support healthy weight loss, because most episodes don’t specifically delve into dietary changes and supplementation routines that are used to lose weight.

2) (Un) Well

A fascinating docu-series, (Un)Well sadly has just six episodes, but it is an absolute must-watch for anyone committed to healthy living and clean eating. It gives us a closer look at the ‘wellness’ industry, which has grown into a behemoth worth nearly $4.5 trillion. Although the ‘wellness’ movement started out simply as a sensible healthy living guide to improve food choices, encourage exercise, and promote natural medicine, it’s transformed into, for lack of a better word, an industry. Each episode explores a particular wellness treatment or trend, from essential oils to fasting and will inspire you to make more informed choices when it comes to anything that you put in your body.

3) Food Secrets

Hosted by Kate Quilton on Channel 4, Food Secrets is an excellent show to watch if you’re looking to adopt the healthiest changes to every aspect of your diet, from cooking styles to serving sizes and meal timing. The show is easy to understand and it’s a quick watch because the episodes are all under ten minutes, but they’re extremely informative. Every episode addresses specific concerns that are commonly raised in the health world about different types of food and eating habits. Food Secrets is entertaining, inspiring, and extremely positive.

4) The Game Changers

The Netflix series The Game Changers was a huge success, reflecting the growing popularity of veganism in some parts of the world. While most of us recognize the benefits of veganism for the environment, this show delves into the impact of vegan food choices on human health. Hosted by former MMA fighter James Wilks, The Game Changers has great presentation and puts forward good arguments to show that veganism can be healthy, inspiring viewers to make healthier food choices – eat more leafy greens, fruits, and other plant-based foods. Just take the claims with a grain of salt, because not all of them are backed by sound science.

5) Secret Eaters

This is another documentary and reality TV series that deals with a pervasive problem in the UK and US – overeating. Each episode follows a typical family with overweight or obese individuals, closely monitoring their eating habits. What’s a recurring theme is that most of these people believe they’re eating healthy and they don’t realize how many of their choices are unhealthy or just how much they’re eating. The program is not judgmental or critical, instead exploring behavioral psychology and food science, with expert analyses of their food choices and habits. It’s certainly food for thought and will inspire you to change your eating habits.
