You don’t need us to tell you how beneficial exercise can be. Fitness has been a mainstay of modern life since the 1970s, and today it’s recognized as offering a wide range of benefits, including improved mood, better appearance, enhanced energy levels, and keeping long-term health conditions at bay.
So yes, getting fit is one of the best things that you can do for your mental and physical well-being. And yet, despite that, there are still plenty of people who want those benefits yet who avoid beginning the fitness regime that will provide them.
As with most things, the first steps are the most challenging. With that in mind, we thought that we’d outline some handy tips that should make your journey into the fitness world easier to manage — and make sure that it becomes a permanent part of your lifestyle.

Start Slow
It’s good to start with enthusiasm, but it’s also important to be realistic. If you’ve never exercised before, then it’s unlikely that you’ll suddenly start working out every single day. Taking an ‘all or nothing’ mindset nearly always results in the ‘nothing.’ We’d recommend starting slow but committed for the first few weeks, so that you become familiar with exercise without becoming overwhelmed.
Join a Gym
You don’t necessarily need to join a gym to start and maintain a fitness regime, but there can be a lot of value in doing so. For one thing, it shows commitment. Gyms also have everything you need to get into shape, and also function to get you into the right mindset required to work out. When you pass through the doors of your gym, you’ll know that it’s time to get to work.
Many people shy away from gyms because they believe that they’re expensive, but that’s something of a myth. Some gyms are expensive, but others, like Fitness 19, are highly affordable while also offering all the equipment you’ll need. Once you’ve signed up, you’ll find that you’re much more likely to stick to your fitness schedule in a way that you probably wouldn’t if you were simply jogging around the neighborhood or doing push-ups at home.
Consider Professional Help
It’s recommended to start with workout machines when you first start your fitness journey, since they’re useful for learning the correct form. With that said, you’ll get more from your workout if you feel comfortable using a wider range of gym equipment. Booking a few sessions with a personal trainer can be a great way to learn how to use equipment, and they’ll also be able to tell you exactly what you should be doing in order to reach your fitness goals.
Give It Two Months
It can be tempting to give up on a fitness regime, especially during the first month or so, when you’ll likely be experiencing all of the pain, none of the glory. It takes a bit of time to begin feeling the benefits. As such, it’s recommended to simply commit to working out for two months — if you want to give up then, then you can; but in reality, you’ll likely have noticed the benefits and wouldn’t even dream of quitting.
